Its history predates the capital’s relocation to the Heian period, and it is said to have been founded in 711. It is said to bring good fortune in business prosperity and safety in the home, and is crowded with many worshippers throughout the year. As you walk through the grounds, you will encounter “foxes,” messengers of Inari Okami, everywhere. In front of the tower gate, there is a statue of a fox with the symbols A and Un, holding a “jewel” on the right and a “key” on the left.
